Nassau, Bahamas, 1-8 September 2000
General trip notes:
Vacation with Caroline (kids stayed with grandma). We exchanged RCI at Club Land'or. Smallish room, tiny kitchen and bathroom (shower only, no tub). Purchasing a "week" at Club Land'or timeshare is buying nothing - for $19K you get NO fixed week and no specific room - just the "right" to have one. These people were selling air. Atlantis - big casino, suites, etc., right next to Land'or also sells timeshare at $40K, fixed room, fixed week. Weather for trip was hot (100°+) and sunny, rained a couple times in the afternoon (rain comes up unexpectedly). We left the pool, no sign of rain, and by the time we got to the room, it was raining. In Bahamas everyone adds 15% gratuity automatically. Great weather, nice diving, LOTS of relaxation. Day cruise to Rose Island ($37.50) was nice - snorkelling, beach, food, drinks.

Notes:
Bahama Divers flip-flops back and forth between being service-conscious and business-conscious. One minute they are helpful, next minute they are rushing you. "OK" dive operation. 8 divers and 4 snorkellers. Wreck broken up and scattered, lots of corals, fans, large blue parrot fish, barracuda, chromis, nudibranches, cleaner shrimp, spotted moray eel. The wreck was sunk on purpose for diving. Still having problems with prescription mask flooding - it appears to be a fitting problem (probably skirt), not a leak.

Same trip as #61. Wreck was larger and more intact. Legend is Jamaican rum smugglers. More wreck and engine parts to see, many fish: parrotfish, barracuda, chubs, squirrelfish, fairy basslet, four eye butterfly fish.

Notes:
7 divers on the boat - much more relaxed, better service. Several sharks - three to six foot nurse sharks, four to eight foot reef sharks. We also went 30 feet into a cave. This is a big hole in 40-50' depth sand/reef that goes down 200' or more. Going over the edge is like going onto a wall (but round, approximately 100' diameter). Overhang around edges had lots of interesting coral, a "herd" of 10 african pompano "patrolling" in a pointed arrowhead formation. Using non-prescription mask - no flooding problems. Multilevel: 1min(90-100):A, 15min(70-80):K, 10min(40-50):O, 6min(35-40):Q, 3min(15).

Notes:
Same trip as #63. Huge variety of reef life - grouper, yellow sting ray, sea cucumber, sea beans (shiny silver), flounder, tiny one-to-three inch clear jellyfish (harmless), queen angelfish, blue and midnight parrotfish. Corals: staghorn, green cactus, finger, mountainous star, brain, pillar. Corky sea fingers, common purple sea fan, several nudibranches, pretty peach color sea anemone.

Notes:
Sea Island Adventures private snorkel/beach island. Party organized by Club Land'or. $37.50 each. 11AM to 6PM (advertised times - we actually left about noon). Included snacks, lunch, snorkelling, beach, free drinks (Bahama Mama's, etc.). Depth 3 to 12 feet with small reefs, interesting coral and sponges and fish. Since Bahama Mama's are $6 each at Club Land'or pool bar, it's definitely "worth it" if you have a few drinks. Water was mostly 85°-ish, but had cooler and warmer currents. We snorkelled twice - 0:30 and 0:45.
